‘Solo’ is Tjebbe Beekman’s fourth solo show at gallery Stigter Van Doesburg.
The paintings of Tjebbe Beekman guides us through a state of
disorientation and then reorientation. The often large format turbulent images, without the presence of people, have an immediate impact on the viewer. Isometric perspectives, multiple dimensions with light and shadow, raw brush strokes on grainy, manipulated surfaces create an almost haptic illusion of a real, touchable site. Tjebbe Beekman wants his paintings not only to overwhelm but a critical worldview is also very present. "I can not ignore what’s happeing in the world around me. For me, it is imperative to do something with it in my work".
In the new series of paintings of artists studios Beekman dives deeper into his characteristic construction of image collage, further blurring the line between realism and abraction.
